About Dave

Hello, I’m Dave and I’m an amateur astronomer living in the UK.

My Story

Ever since I was a kid I have been interested in Astronomy and Space Travel. I wanted to be an astronaut or work as a professional astronomer. Unfortunately, the first was not open to me being a British citizen and the second I didn’t get the right qualifications I needed to go to university and gain the relevant ones.

So I decided to become an amateur astronomer. I read all the books I could find and from them I learnt the stars and constellations. Many years and many telescopes later I have moved on to Astrophotography, taking my own photographs of the night sky including, the moon, the planets and other deep sky objects.

After all these years I still have enthusiasm for the night sky as I did when I was a kid.

As I have said earlier I have had a lifetime of viewing the stars through telescopes, taking pictures and just taking in the wonders of our universe. I want to bring that experience to as many people as possible and may be tomorrows astronauts or professional astronomers and make a scientific break through that changes our view on the universe.

We all have to start somewhere and getting the right information before we buy is essential. Nobody wants to start a new hobby and spend hundreds or even thousands of pounds on something that ends up standing in a corner doing nothing because we don’t understand how to use it.

You will find answers and suggestions on this site which can either be answered here or you will be redirected to a site that can help you. You will also find the best places to buy your equipment. These are sites that I have personally used or have had very good reviews from people I trust.

If you ever need advice, or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out.

All the best,

Dave Anscombe
