An image of ‘Earth Rise’ first taken by William B Anders from the Apollo 8 spacecraft in December 1968. Apollo 8 was the first manned spacecraft that orbited the Moon. The astronauts on Apollo 8 were the first to see such a sight and it shows our own Earth as it is in the darkness of space. The picture has become one of the most iconic pictures ever taken.
