Every week we will be posting a different picture of the universe. It may be of a galaxy or nebula, or it could be something much closer in our own Solar System. If it perks your interest in astronomy then read some of my articles on astronomy. Some sections are especially for those new to the hobby.

The Andromeda Galaxy, or M31 as it is also known. This galaxy is over 2.5 million light years away (a light year is the distance light travels in one year, approx 5.8 trillion miles). It is around 200,000 light years across, about the size of our own Galaxy, and has numerous satellite galaxies. The Andromeda Galaxy is heading towards our own Galaxy and in about 4.5 billion years they will collide. The gravity of both these Galaxies and the Black Holes within them, will pull apart both Galaxies and form either a larger Elliptical Galaxy or a large Lenticular Galaxy.
